The open-source core is a capable BI platform. Lightdash+ adds what enterprises actually need around it: a build you can standardise on, people you can call, the compliance settings nobody finds on their own, and three capabilities that simply do not exist in any Lightdash tier.

A version you can standardise on

Lightdash ships releases many times a day. We pin, test and publish a certified release on a fixed cadence and support the current and previous one, so your platform stops moving underneath you. Signed images, SBOMs and CVE scanning included.

Enterprise support licence

Published response times, a private support channel and a named technical account manager. Community Slack is not an answer a risk committee accepts.

Your tenancy, your rules

On-prem, private cloud or fully air-gapped. EU data residency by design: your dbt project, your queries and your results stay inside your network.

Compliance, actually switched on

Single sign-on against Okta, Entra ID or any OIDC provider, row and column level security through user attributes, and a full audit trail streamed into your SIEM. All three ship in the open-source core, all three are effectively invisible, and we configure and test them.

One definition, from dbt

Metrics are defined once in your dbt project, versioned in git and reviewed like code — then explored by everyone. No second modelling layer drifting away from the first.

Your warehouse, unchanged

Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, PostgreSQL, Trino, ClickHouse and Athena. Queries run in your warehouse, under your governance, with no extract layer in between.

Each one is a separate service working through public interfaces — the API, your dbt project and your warehouse. Nothing is forked, so you keep the upstream release train, and each add-on works just as well if you also license Lightdash Enterprise.

Ask Your Metrics

Natural-language answers over the governed semantic layer, on the model you already pay for.

  • Bring your own LLM: any OpenAI-compatible endpoint — Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex, or vLLM/Ollama you host
  • Never writes raw SQL. It composes a Lightdash query, so answers inherit your governed metric definitions
  • Numbers match the dashboards by construction, because both resolve the same definitions
  • Answers in Slack and Teams, and in a companion web app for longer analysis
  • Every answer links back to a real explore, so an analyst can verify it and keep working
  • Each question runs as the person asking, so permissions and row-level rules are respected

Questions enterprises ask us

Is Lightdash+ a fork of Lightdash?

No. Lightdash+ runs the unmodified open-source Lightdash core, which is MIT licensed. The three add-ons are separate services that work through public interfaces — the REST API, your dbt project and your warehouse — so you stay on the upstream release train and benefit from every upstream improvement.

Where does it run?

In your tenancy: your on-prem Kubernetes, your private cloud account (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI) or a fully air-gapped site. Queries execute in your own warehouse. Duces never hosts your data.

Does it work with our identity provider?

Yes. Single sign-on against Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, OneLogin, any generic OIDC provider or Google Workspace is configured, hardened and tested as part of onboarding — together with row and column level security and audit logging into your SIEM.

How is this different from buying Lightdash Enterprise?

Lightdash sells its own licensed edition, which adds things like embedding, SCIM provisioning and custom roles. Lightdash+ is a different proposition: the open-source core, deployed and supported by us in your tenancy, plus three capabilities no Lightdash tier offers. If you also license Lightdash Enterprise, our add-ons work alongside it — they are not tied to an edition.

How do you handle upgrades and security patches?

Lightdash releases many times a day, which is unmanageable to track in an enterprise. We publish a certified release on a fixed cadence instead, so you run a version we have tested and can support. Security issues are assessed against the version you are actually running and patched on the timeline in your support terms.

Which LLM does Ask Your Metrics use?

Yours. Point it at any OpenAI-compatible endpoint — your Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock or Google Vertex tenant, or a vLLM or Ollama model you host. Prompts and results go only to the provider you chose, under your contract. Duces never sees them.

Do we need dbt to use this?

Yes. Lightdash builds its semantic layer from your dbt project, which is exactly why metric definitions stay versioned and reviewable. If you do not have a dbt project yet, our Data & AI practice builds one as part of onboarding.

How do you relate to the Lightdash project?

Lightdash is an open-source project licensed under MIT and developed by Telescope Technology Limited.
